With guys like Johnson, Mussina, Sheffield, Andreassen, Santiago, and Bernie Williams, do you feel that your team is too old to compete with the younger players in the league?

Our team is not as old as you expect. They may be old in years, but they love this game. I feel that they can take on anyone, young or old, in this league. It's been happening from the past to the present. We will get some young prospects on the way, but be sure to watch these "old" guys play. They still love this game and they will comepete the best they could.

Brian, do you feel you still are the team to beat in the NL East and how easily do you feel you can win?

I'm not gonna make any predictions as to what will happen but I feel that this team is very capable of being No. 1. We have a very good lineup and solid pitching so I think we will do very good in the AL East (not NL lmao). I think that we could be a very tough team out there. If you want my prediction, I think that we will come back on top once again.

That's a very bold prediction there mr. cashman but anyway, what do you think about the smaller market teams, that look at a single person's pay per season on your team, and it's half of their entire teams salary. Does it make you think that maybe spending all this money isn't the way to go? Teams in the past that have won, the Marlins a few years ago especially. They had a payroll of probably atleast 1/4th of your team, and all these teams making the world series with low payrolls, do you think you overpay the wrong players?

Well, so far it hasn't seem that way. Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright aren't having good years but they'll be back to a solid form. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Gary Sheffield, they all have been very good hitters and solid outfielders and from what I can see, because of how good they are, I think they should be getting the money they deserve. I'm not taking anything away from the small market teams. I think that some of the small market teams are very good. Look at the Pirates, I mean they have some good players and are having a pretty good year. The White Sox, which they could be in the middle, won the WS last year. Small market teams can do it. But sometimes players get payed what they deserve. You don't want Barry Bonds, after hitting 60 homeruns, to have a 350k contract do you? I know that you'd probably say yes, but the chemistry in Bonds if he had that contract would be kinda low. He would be expecting a good contract after what he displayed, but instead he got a measley contract which would most likely make his chemistry low. Big money players can make big money plays. But we've had some players who haven't been up to what their contract should be. But we'll work on that. It's the other players, like A-Rod, Jeter, Sheffield, Matsui, Giambi, who have been doing good work and I am going to try to keep it that way.
